...Embracing a "Higher" Education
Mary, Queen of Heaven School embraces the Gospel message of Jesus Christ and partners with parents to provide a Catholic education in which children achieve academic excellence and live their faith through prayer and service.
Our fourth graders will be organizing an event called One Day Without Shoes, which will take place on . This worldwide program, developed by the Toms Shoe Company, seeks to raise awareness about people around the world who lack basic necessities, specifically shoes. The fourth graders will present information to the rest of the school after doing research. In addition to this, during the week of May 17th, the fourth graders will be collecting new and gently used shoes to be donated to the Waterstep Project, a nonprofit organization that sells the shoes and uses profits to fund projects that provide clean water to people in Haiti, Uganda, and other impoverished countries throughout the world. All students in grades K-8 who donate at least one pair of shoes on or before may be out of uniform on that day (please wait to bring in shoes until May 18th). Also on , students in grades 4-8 will go without shoes during the school day (with the exception of restroom trips and recess), in order to help the students understand what it is like to lack basic necessities. If your child is in grades 4-8 and you do not want your child to participate in the Day Without Shoes event, please email his/her teacher before . Please make sure all donated shoes are new or gently used (may be child or adult shoes), and shoes in a pair should be tied together with laces or rubber banded together. Thank you for your cooperation with this project!
