...Embracing a "Higher" Education
Mary, Queen of Heaven School embraces the Gospel message of Jesus Christ and partners with parents to provide a Catholic education in which children achieve academic excellence and live their faith through prayer and service.
Our Advent theme this year is “MOLD US INTO THE IMAGE OF JESUS, YOUR SON.”
There will be a manger on the hall wall and each week a ray with a quality of Jesus will be added emanating from the manger. We are asking students to try to be like Jesus especially focusing on that particular trait during the week. Students will be completing the sentence, “I am God’s masterpiece because …” Having a discussion with your child about the many reasons we are his masterpiece would be a great family exercise in understanding God’s love for us.
Week One: Generosity
Beginning on November 28th until December 7th we will be collecting new hats and gloves for Welcome House. Students are also asked to look for opportunities to be generous with one another – maybe sharing a smile or inviting a child to join in a game.
Week Two: Focus on God
Students will write petitions during the week especially those of gratitude and thanksgiving for all God has done for us. These will be shared and prayed in class.
On Friday, December 9th at 1:45 we will pray the rosary in church. 8th graders will lead the prayer. You are invited to join us.
Week Three: Use Your Gifts for Others
Students will be encouraged to appreciate their own gifts and talents and use them to help others whenever possible. Grade level prayer partners will meet together for a fun activity on December 16th.
Week Four: Respect for Others
Students are especially encouraged to be respectful to each other and adults. Some ideas are remembering to say please and thank you (especially to cafeteria workers), to listen carefully to one another in class, to be extra respectful to family, and maybe give Grandma and Grandpa a telephone call.
You are invited to join us for a prayer service in church on December 21st at 9:00.
